The Roundup – October 3rd ⚑️

πŸ‘‹ Welcome back Reader

This week I'm bringing you the latest social media news, content ideas and a peek at what's new at XOmisse this month.

πŸ“° In the news

Before we wrap up the week, here's a look at the latest social media news and updates...

Instagram tests Reels as the Main Feed

Instagram is testing a new interface that opens the app directly on the Reels tab, instead of the traditional main feed. Tapping the first post expands it to the full-screen, scrollable Reels view that we're familiar with.

Photos from accounts you follow will still appear in this updated home tab, though I haven't seen an example of how that works yet.

Adam Mosseri explained that "Reels and DMs have driven most all our growth at Instagram over the last few years, so we are exploring making them the first two tabs."

No doubt this change will spark plenty of debate. What do you think, love it or hate it?

Other updates

  • Instagram testing a PDF download of your account stats, making it easy to share with brands or partners.
  • Instagram Maps roll out to more users.
  • Meta launching paid ad-free subscriptions for Facebook and Instagram in the UK.
  • Threads hides hashtags in posts automatically shared from Instagram.
  • Threads opens its topic-based communities to all users.
  • Threads developing a tool that lets you tag its algorithm to configure your feed.
  • Facebook adds custom challenges for fan pages to encourage engagement.
  • YouTube has introduced new ways for creators to earn from brand deals, including adding swappable brand segments to long-form videos.
  • OpenAI is creating an invite-only social app for AI-generated videos.

πŸ’ From my desk

September was an active month...

πŸ–₯️ I gave my website a refresh. While it looks mostly the same, it's now easier to navigate. I plan to add some *flair*, but the main goal for now was usability!

β€‹πŸ”Ž I pre-launched my SEO Kickstart System. It's not publicly announced yet, so you're getting the first look. It covers the essentials of setting up SEO for a new website, a topic I get asked about all the time.

πŸ—£οΈ On the content front, I published five new blog posts and have been more active on LinkedIn. I'd love to connect with you there, you can find me here.

πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» Looking ahead, I have a few spots open in October and November for projects. If you need help with your website, content strategy or marketing execution, just reply to this email – I'd love to chat!

Until next time, have a great weekend!
