💭 From my desk
I was chatting to someone new recently (okay, it was a date) and naturally, we got onto the topic of work...
"I've been thinking about creating fitness content to document my journey but I'm a private person so I'm worried about what people might think and I don't know how to grow it into something bigger", he said.
Now, you know this set my brain off. Advice poured out of me as we dove deeper into the conversation. So much so that he jokingly told me to send him an invoice and be his manager. (New business idea maybe?! LOL)
The reason I'm sharing this is because I know that SO MANY PEOPLE think this way too. I've heard some version of this story a thousand times.
Damn, I've been there myself WAYYY back in 2009 when it wasn't as mainstream.
So in case you need it this week, here's the gist of my advice:
- Start a new account and block anyone you don't want seeing it. This won't prevent them from ever finding your content but hopefully it will give you the confidence to start and get the ball rolling.
- Don't overthink it, just start. Otherwise a year from now you'll be still wondering if you should do it.
- In my experience, the people who have negative opinions about what you're doing are jealous because they wish they could put themselves out there like you are.
- Those people with negative opinions, they don't pay your bills baby! They will have their opinions about you whether you do the thing or not. So you might as well do whatever makes you happy.
- People only find it "cringe" until they see you as successful. Then they will be sliding into your DMs asking for advice on how to do the same.
So, go do the thing – I believe in you!
If you're already in your creator/business owner journey, what advice would you give someone starting out?
