πŸ‘‹ Welcome back Reader

This week in The Roundup we're discussing:

β†’ Get your website SEO-ready this weekend
β†’ Instagram could be getting links
β†’ Explore outside of your bubble for inspiration

Let's dive in...

πŸ“Œ Clarity = Higher Ranking on Google

If your website is new, Google first needs to understand what your business does. Use keywords that describe your services or products, and include them naturally on your main pages. Be specific and explain exactly what you offer and who it’s for. Clear messaging helps Google rank your site and makes it easy for customers to see why they should choose you.

πŸ“° In the news

Are links finally coming to Instagram??

Despite Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, previously saying they wouldn't be adding them because of spam concerns, it looks like Instagram is now testing links in the early stages.

Is this what everyone has been asking for? Yes.

Do I think it will be a good addition? No.

Here's why: social apps want people to stay on their platform, so posts with links usually perform worse. If Instagram does introduce links, it either won’t work the way we want or it will and could hurt reach.

Instagram won't limit stories reach anymore

Instagram previously suggested that posting multiple stories could lower reach and that you needed to wait 24 hours to improve it. They now say Story reach won't be limited anymore, and that restriction was never their intention.

What else is new:

  • Instagram is testing a feature that shows the topics you interact with in Reels, letting you adjust what you want to see more or less of.
  • Instagram reaches 3 billion monthly active users.
  • Instagram rolls out its "Shots", the quick image sharing feature to more regions, letting you share moments with your connections in the app.
  • Mosseri confirmed that taking an extended break of 1-2 months on Instagram can impact your reach.
  • As first reported a while back, Instagram seems to be going ahead with moving Story Highlights into the main grid.
  • Instagram confirm that scheduling doesn't hurt reach on Instagram.
  • Threads update profile search capacity making it easier to find relevant posts and mentions from a specific user.
  • LinkedIn adds post send and save insights to analytics.
  • TikTok adds new content insights into analytics, including new trending topic ideas based on your existing videos.
  • TikTok's Comment with image option is rolling out to more users.
  • CapCut add new features including LinkedIn integration and new AI tools.
  • Adobe is launching Premiere, a mobile-first video editor to compete with TikTok’s CapCut and Meta's Edits, coming September 30th.
  • Trump has signed an executive order recognising the framework of a deal between ByteDance and the US to satisfy the TikTok divest-or-ban law.
  • YouTube testing option to hide video end screens.
  • WhatsApp rolls out in-stream translation for messages.

πŸ’ From my desk

Last weekend, I found myself at a conference for image professionals. Totally not my world, but I was there to cheer on my friend Leela Sule, who gave an amazing talk on how neuroscience, identity and style shape who we become.

I left feeling inspired. It reminded me of something I often tell clients: sometimes the best ideas come from stepping outside your bubble.

When I put together a marketing audit or strategy for a small business or personal brand, I start by looking at competitors and the industry to spot gaps. But I also look outside the niche, seeing what's working in other industries. Adapting those ideas often leads to unexpected opportunities, fresh ideas and ways for a brand to really stand out.

Being in a room with entrepreneurs outside my usual circle gave me that same perspective. I saw challenges in a new way, picked up ideas I hadn't thought of, gained new client insights and built new connections.

In the coming weeks, where could you look for inspiration outside your field? Where can you show up that could open new doors for you?

Until next time,
Elaine XO
