The Roundup – September 8th ⚡️

👋 Welcome back Reader

This week in The Roundup we're discussing:

→ 5 quick and easy SEO tweaks for instant impact
→ Instagram Multipart Reels, and other social media updates
→ How we can work together before the year wraps up

Let's dive in...

📌 Kickstart your SEO in 30 minutes

If you've been feeling stuck with SEO, you're not alone. The good news? You don't need hours of work or technical know-how to start seeing results. I’m sharing 5 simple SEO wins you can do quickly that will impact your website.

Your SEO quick wins for this week:

  1. Optimise your homepage title: Make it clear what your business does and who it's for. Don't try to be cute or clever, stick to the key words and phrases used by your target audience. Think about what they're searching for and how you can best optimise your title for it. A good format to start with is: [Your Business Name] – [Service/Offer] for [Audience/Location]
  2. Write a clear meta description: This snippet shows up on Google so keep it short (150–160 characters), compelling and include your main keyword. Focus on giving people a reason to click through to your site.
  3. Set up your Google Business Profile: If your business serves a local area, this is essential and will help people find you on Search and Maps.
  4. Install an SEO plugin: This won't necessarily boost SEO but it helps ensure the basics are correct so spend time going through the settings!
  5. Submit your sitemap: Create a Google Search Console (GSC) account, take the generated sitemap from your SEO plugin and add it to your GSC. This helps Google discover and crawl your content, and can highlight errors on your site preventing your content from ranking.

I'm launching something next week to help you set up your SEO foundations the right way. Keep an eye on your inbox for more details.

In the meantime, if you'd like a personalised tip for your site, hit reply to this email and I'll send you one quick thing you can implement straight away to improve your SEO.

📰 In the news

And we're back with some of the latest updates to our favourite social media platforms...

Instagram tests picture-in-picture viewing for Reels

Instagram is live testing a picture-in-picture viewing option for Reels allowing you to continue watching in a smaller window while using other apps on your device. This option is already available on YouTube and TikTok.

Instagram adds linking for multipart Reels

Hooray for this much-requested feature!! Instagram now allows creators to link Reels to one another in-stream, leading your audience through a connected series of videos and helping to drive ongoing engagement.

Other updates

  • Mosseri considers counting screenshots in Instagram engagement metrics
  • Instagram launches an app for the iPad
  • Instagram adds retention metrics for Reels
  • Instagram replaces "View Rate" with "Skip Rate" in Insights (View Rate = percentage watched past the first 3 seconds. Skip Rate = percentage of views from people who decided to skip during those first 3 seconds)
  • Meta continue to improve the Instagram Edits app, adding improved insights, safe zone mapping, keyframe curves and more
  • Threads announced its new in-stream counter for posts within a Thread, showing how long each series of posts is within the app
  • TikTok adds voice notes and expands image and video sharing in DMs
  • LinkedIn adds more post performance analytics, including notifications for posts that drive profile viewers, impressions and new followers
